Test Case Title

TC1.15: PAXCounters of Different kinds: Counting the number of people

Goal

To use and connect PAXCounters of different kinds

To count an index that is strongly correlated with t he number of distinct people passing by or that have been present in a certain area.

Prerequisites

Capability to use IOT Devices, create dashboards

Expected successful result

Counting the number of people in an area or passing by. Tracking IOT devices.

Steps

Snap4City has produced a number of PAXCounters kinds. The combination of them and the Snap4City platform  is  GDPR compliant.

  • Fixed PaxCounter, sending data via LoraWan: Counting number of people on  the basis of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This version is an IOT Device. It need to be plugged on power to work. It can stay on power for any time. This device is provided with its power supply. Typically arrive with a default setting of collecting and sending data every 8 minutes.
  • GPS PaxCounter (also called Mobile PAXCounter), sending data via LoraWan: Counting number of people on the basis of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. This version is an IOT Device. This IOT device has to be recharged before using, and you need to turn it off (by using the micro switch below the device (very small) use a tool to move it). Please DO NOT keep ON when is under recharge, it is not designed to work as PAX Counter during the recharge and may result in damaging the battery, please do not keep the battery fully discharged for long time. This device is provided with its power supply. To recharge it, you need to plug on its own power provided until a green light appears on the right side of the screen (still maintained off), it is not evident please observe carefully in a dark. (we do not provided an hole to the case to make it more splash proof). When the PAX Counter is charged, it maintains the operative function of sending data to LoraWan Gateway for 4-6 hours depending on the number of WiFi connections established. This device is provided with a 3300 mA rechargeable battery inside. Typically, it is provided with a default setting for collecting and sending data every 8 minutes, sniffing WiFi. This IOT device produces data of PAX counting with GPS coordinates and time stamp taken from GPS. In the Snap4City platform, it can be easily combined with the tracker on Dashboard to monitor daily trajectories together with the values measured over time as depicted in the following figures. It may be provided with additional sensors attached to take measures on the move as well.
  • Fixed PaxCounter Wi-Fi, sending data via LoraWan and Wi-Fi, both or just one: Counting number of people on the basis of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth (if activated). This version is an IOT Edge with local computing capability. Since internally has a IOT Application, it can be programmed to perform local computation and also to change the sample time over time, send alarms, etc.

The above devices can be used for counting the number of distinct people which instantaneously are located in a given area, or to count the number of distinct people accessing to an area for the whole day or time slot. The GPS version can be be moved around and used with the tracker dashboard for monitoring the activities. All of them can be connected to some sensors on board or outside to send also the sensor values in addition to the  number of people counting WiFi and Bluetooth connections. Most of these PAXCounters can be remotely programmed to perform different kinds of counting.

If you are interested in having some of them, please contact Snap4City on the contact point.

Using Mobile PAX Counters

for more details see :Solution: Controlling PAX Counters

From the dashboard it is possible to (from the left upper corner):

  • See value trend of Counted PAX in the last 24 hours, if it has been operative.
  • See Value trend of the last week, for the max value
  • Please note that the PAX Counter can be used in Cumulative or Cyclic modes:
    • Cumulative mode: count the number of distinct people and every 8 minutes send the value to the system. The value is not rest when it sent, so that in the successive 8 minutes only the new arrivals are counted
    • Cyclic mode (Cumulative OFF); count the count the number of distinct people and every 8 minutes send the value to the system, every 8 minutes it is reset and the same mobile or new arrival are counted from zero in the same manner.
  • Program the Mobile Pax Counter to setup into the day of a period with Cumulative counting of PAX having unique fingerprint based on their mobile phone. For example:
    • Set the BEGIN time at which the cumulative modality has to start, by using plus and minus on the right
    • Set the FINISH time at which the cumulative modality has to STOP, by using plus and minus on the right, thus returning in cyclic modality.
    • Once Set: you can program the Mobile PAX by clicking on the ACTIVATE button
  • You can read in the below field the status of you PAX.

On the Right side you can see the history of measures performed:

  • Trajectories and values day by day
  • And you can activate real time tracking.
  • Please note that multiple trajectories can be shown at the same time.
