case description

This test case is devoted to Citizens which are hosting a specific sensor to collect environmental data. Snap4City has received a list of 5 of them. For each of them we are creating a specific Dashboard (an example is reported in the following). They can also create their own dashboard and processing by following Test Case H9.

The special city users will be capable to perform (i) activities on their specific sensor device, (ii) general activities for monitoring environmental and weather conditions in Jätkäsaari area and Helsinki in the large, such as:

  • accessing and monitoring technical information about environmental conditions in real time. Identify eventual critical cases for the city;
  • observing real time and prediction data, trends and heatmaps of the environmental and weather conditions, of the area and of the city;

case goal

The aim of this Test Case is to be become aware about specific environmental conditions close to my house and my sensor with respect to those of the area and of the city. They can take a decision on the basis of the context and data value observed for example: deciding the best time to go for a walk with the baby or for jogging, be more aware about the environmental condition and may be put in correlation cause and effects.  So that to get information in real time and historical data about

  • My own sensor
    • Monitoring real time and time trend of main environmental data of the managed sensor
    • See the status of the sensor as reliability trend
  • General information of the area and of the city accessing to:
    • real time, predictions and historical values, of weather, environmental, data, air quality indexes, noise; Of your sensors and of other public sensors in Helsinki
    • heatmaps of relevant weather and/or environmental variables and see the animations for the H24 evolution of them (for the current day and past values);
    • Picking the value of an heatmap in a specific GPS point by mouse
    • sensors values and air quality index and heatmaps for Jätkäsaari area
    • observe general POI, services in the city;
  • Access to the online documentation of the dashboard;
  • Contributing on the Forum Discussion;
  • Filling the survey of this case.

may send a request to us at snap4city@disit.org with the ID of the sensor if it is one already registered. If a user would like to create a personal custom dashboard can do by following the test case (Helsinki H9), or directly the case: HOW TO: create a Dashboard in Snap4City (https://www.snap4city.org/drupal/node/473 )

  1. My own sensor: Monitoring real time and time trend of main environmental data of the managed sensor
      • Go on Snap4City portal: https://www.snap4city.org
      • Login with your username and password
      • Click on the above links of the Dashboards or search for the Dashboards of your city:
        https://www.snap4city.org/dashboardSmartCity/view/index.php?iddasboard=MTc0Mw==
      • On the left side of the dashboard the real time data from your sensor are shown. They are related to:

        • RealTimeAQI: real time hourly value (updated to the current hour) of the Air Quality Index and daily trend updated every hour.
        • Real Time PM10: real time last updated value of PM10 pollutant (measured in µg/m3) and daily trend updated every hour
        • Average Last Hour PM10: real time hourly value (updated to the current hour) of PM10 pollutant (measured in in µg/m3) and daily trend updated every hour.
        • Real Time PM2.5: real time last updated value of PM2.5 pollutant  (measured in µg/m3) and daily trend updated every a few of minutes.
        • Average Last Hour PM2.5: real time hourly value (updated to the current hour) of PM2.5 pollutant  (measured in µg/m3) and daily trend updated every a few minutes.
        • Sensor reliability  as from the sensor provider documentation.
  2. General information
    • Access at real time, predictions and historical values, of weather, environmental, data, air quality indexes, noise;

      • The left column shows a selector offering the possibility to select different services and POIs to be shown on the map.
      • By selecting a specific service in the list, the corresponding pins are shown on the map. Each pin represents a specific service or sensor in the city
      • If not yet selected, click on an environmental service in the list available in the Selector, for example Weather sensor or Air Quality Sensors. The selected services are identified by a white arrow. The corresponding pins are shown on the map;
      • Click on a pin. A popup will be shown with the data and real time information available for the selected sensor.
      • In the pin popup, the Buttons table provides user the possibility to click on a specific value or trend.
      • In the first row airTemperature click Last Value button. The last value will be shown in the widget on the bottom left below the map.
      • In the Buttons table, scroll down to the airHumidity row and click the “Last 7 Days” button. The last 7 days values will be represented in the trend below the map.
      • By moving the cursor on the graph in the trend widget, the corresponding values are shown as tooltip;
      • Play with other weather and environmental values by selecting the service of interest on the Selector list and by clicking the specific pin in the map.
    • Access to heatmaps of relevant weather and/or environmental variables and see the animations for the H24 evolution of them (for the current day and past values);

      • Click on Noise Real Time item in the Selector list;
      • The heatmap is shown on the map;
      • On the top corner of the map, regulate the opacity of the heatmap;
      • Click on the 24H button to start the animation showing the evolution of the heatmap in the last day. The animation starts from midnight of the selected day;
      • On the top right corner of the map, click to the Prev and Next buttons to see the heatmap updated according to the selected day and hour;
      • The animation can be activated for any of the available heatmaps.
    • Picking the value of an heatmap in a specific point by mouse
      • With one of the available heatmap loaded on the map, click on a point in the map;
      • A popup will be shown representing the estimated value in the clicked point
    • Access to sensors values and air quality index and heatmaps for Jätkäsaari area
      • Unselect all services in the Selector list to start from scratch;
      • Move the map to focus the view in the Jätkäsaari area
      • In the Selector list click on PM10 Jätkäsaari
      • Click on a point in the map. A popup will be shown with the estimated PM10 value for the point selected.
      •  In the Selector list click on the PM2.5 Jätkäsaari item and/or EAQI Jätkäsaari item to see the corresponding heatmap.
    • Access and observe general POI, services in the city;
      • In the Selector list click on one of the following POI: Weather Sensors and/or Air Quality Sensors. The corresponding POIs will be shown on the map.
      • Click a pin on the map to see details on the right part of the map.
  1. Access to the online documentation of the dashboard;
